Minlaton District School became R-12 in 1991 for students of the surrounding communities of Minlaton, Brentwood and Hardwicke Bay, and feeder schools at Stansbury, Curramulka and Port Vincent. Students are co-operative and reflect supportive family backgrounds and an active community. The R-10 curriculum is based on the SA curriculum framework. A comprehensive range of South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) Stage 1 & 2 subjects is offered for Year 11-13 students.
The Middle and Secondary schools operate on a 5-day, six lesson timetable. A well established work education program commences at Year 10 at SACE Stage 1 level. "Doorways to Construction" and "Doorways to Construction Plus" provide alternative learning pathways for students in years 10-12. A significant number of students (Years 10-12) is involved in school-based apprenticeships in the areas of agriculture, tourism, office administration, retail, automotive, hairdressing, seafood operations and IT. The school is serviced by five school buses that transport approximately 60 percent of the student population.
